Week 6 Discussion: Public Relations Definition/Example

I would define public relations as the maintenance of a favorable image kept up by another company or person.  An example of public relations would be references used on a job application.  The references will most likely give positive reviews of the applicant, and give the employers reasons to hire the applicant.  They will most likely only speak about events that benefit the applicant.  I also think that lawyers could fall into public relations.  Lawyers will try and prove that their client is innocent of the charges being pressed, or try and lessen the verdict of the judge.  The first example is public relations on an unknown person, while the second example is public relations on a person with a negative background to start.

  1. Breanna I says:

First I like that you mention a “favorable” image of the company and or person. I think this is exactly what Public Relations is trying to do. Like your example, you would never use a person as a reference if you didn’t think that they would say truthful and hopefully good things about you. Public Relations doesn’t only say good things about their company they aim to tell the public the truth about their company’s goals and ideals, etc.
